The course aims at providing basic and advanced techniques for the bibliographic search, the management of bibliographies and of scientific publications throughout the editorial process. The course is composed by a descriptive part and practice exercises.
The PhD student will learn how: 1) to perform bibliographic searches through the use of online databases and search engines, providing a general framework of the tools for bibliographic search and discussing the characteristics of the different databases; 2) to consult catalogs and electronic resources at local and national level; 3) to locate and retrieve the identified documents; 4) to organize the materials in a bibliography using EndNote; 5) to manage a manuscript for publication throughout the editorial process; 6) to understand copyright policies, with special emphasis on the open access; 7) Moreover, bibliometric indexes and their application to the evaluation of research and of scientists, will be presented and discussed. Finally, the methodologies of the “systematic review”, applied to research, science communication and support in policy making, will be presented and discussed.
